This high school senior session took place over two locations; which is always an option to add on to your senior pictures if you like. This allowed us a chance to document this senior at his favorite spot, the golf course, and then finish up with some family photos at a spot that the family knows well, too. I love to offer family photos for the last few minutes, about 15-20 minutes of a senior session. This works well if your senior doesn’t want too many outfit changes or individual images. Instead, if we take the last third of the session time for family, you get to document your family before the next big milestone of graduation. For a lot of kids, that means leaving “the nest” and it is the last time everyone is around and easy to set up a family photo session!

The session started at Palma Ceia Country Club and the bright sunshine and golf course greens made everything pop in the sunshine. However, by the time we got to Davis Island Beach, the smoke from Canada was starting to roll in. That was a weird night and some weird and unusual skies to photograph in, but we still got some pretty bright light to work with. I adore Davis Island Beach for a non-Gulf of Mexico beach option near Tampa. It definitely is a location I recommend for a weeknight like this was as opposed to a weekend though as it tends to get quite busy and the beach itself is quite tiny!

Also, I am going to talk about a few photo tips for wardrobes really quickly. Here are two things that I always forewarn clients about. One is a common issue that often comes up for boys and mens’ clothing styles that have small stripes or checks on them. As we get into family photo “season” and next spring will be a bigger senior “season” for me, I think it is good to point out that I don’t normally recommend a small stripe pattern clothing. Take a look at his golf shirt and the small stripes. That actually did work out well for the photos but it is always a gamble when you pick small stripes out for wardrobe for photos. The small pattern can often cause a moiré effect which is a “visual effect that happens when two similar patterns overlap, creating new, wavy, or unwanted stripes of color that go across a photo that wasn't originally there.” I can do some things to reduce the effect in camera and in post editing but I definitely recommend staying away from too many small lines in your wardrobe or even gingham checks can cause a problem in cameras, too. The second tip I am always giving is for white polos. If you go that route, or any white top/outfit, try to make sure you balance the lighter color out with the rest of the family so no one family member is the only person in white. That way the eye has balance around the family, and not just to one person wearing white. The second part of that is look at your skin color and hair/eye color when picking white, too. White can be unforgiving for washing out clients who are pale or have lighter hair and eye colors, too. I want you to look your best and those little wardrobe things to watch for can really help you look your best in your photos.

Here are a few of my favorites from the session.

Also, as a twin mama, you know I had to sneak a few mom and twin son images at the end! This takes me right back to my boys at that age. I am pretty sure they had a very similar outfit like this!
