Summer vacation family photo sessions are in full swing here in Tampa Bay! I feel like I am at Indian Rocks Beach at least twice a week for family vacation beach pictures. Honestly, it feels incredibly lucky to be paid not only doing what I love photographing families, but also being paid to go to the beach. This family was just too fun to document while they were here on vacation at Indian Rocks Beach. They have made many summer family memories visiting our awesome Tampa Bay area beaches from the Midwest and I am so glad they found me to help document their family time at the beach together.

I loved their summer casual but stylish outfits that coordinated but didn’t match too much. The blues, whites and pinks/peaches are always an easy to work with color palette when you are picking wardrobe for family beach photo sessions. Finding different textures and a couple of patterns helps provide a little more visual interest to break up the sand and blue skies, too. Plus, if you pick clothing your kids can move in, we can have a great time. Some of my favorite images are the playful images at the end where we let the kids, big and littles alike, splash and play.

Per my usual plan, we started off the beach for some portraits with some backlight and wind break before heading to the beach. The one thing about the beach that is nice in the summer is that it is a bit windier than other locations. Of course, the slight wind can help cool you down, but can also make hair a little more challenging to deal with for classic portraits, so we usually start somewhere that the wind can be blocked. It isn’t always possible if we have a really windy day, but it is a nice way to grab authentic portraits with personality before heading to the beach where it can be a bit more chaotic. I love a bit of chaos, the wind in your hair, and playful time to let families connect on camera, but I also appreciate a good portrait. Especially as kids change so darn fast in a matter of months, right?

So here are a “FEW” of my favorites from this amazing vacation beach photo sesion at Indian Rocks Beach. Do you have a favorite? Tell me which one you love most and why. I think I love the splashing black and white photo the most and the far away images I took after I put down my bag and phone so I could jump in the Gulf to document the big splash images!

These beachy portraits below are some of my faves, the golden glow is from using the sea weed in front of my camera. That is one of my favorite tricks to add a little sparkle on a sunny day, pick up a flower, or something in the environment and photograph through the item for a bit more flare!

a few classic family portraits at the beach are always a good idea, along with the storytelling authentic images
