When should you take your baby photos?

Well, that depends on what works for you and your family!

I just love newborn photos. I also love just relaxed baby photos in your home in Tampa Bay, too. Newborn photos typically are done within the first two weeks after your baby arrives. If you just want to have a relaxing photo session with your new baby, you can do the photos anytime you want. If you want to do photos when your baby is 5 days old, awesome, if you want to wait a month, that works, too. Ultimately, I am here for you and what you want. If you want more sleepy baby led newborn photos, then of course I am here to help guide you in the best way to achieve that. If you want more relaxed photos as you welcome your newest addition into your family, then we can absolutely do a family photo session version a newborn photo, too. That will mean most of the session your baby is in your arms and can be done while they are awake or asleep or a mixture of both. This family chose a family session versus newborn photos and we accomplished a ton of family photos in our hour together.

Whether you want sleepy newborn pictures that is mostly baby or just lifestyle newborn photos, 99% of the time, I come to you for newborn photos. Every now and then families want a specific park they love close by their house or even want to rent a studio. Those just take a bit of planning for renting a space or making sure the weather is great for taking baby outside.

Going to your home though, that can help take the stress out of the photos by setting them iup n the comfort of your home. I don’t need a super clean house, I get that you just had a baby! Rather, we work in smaller spaces in your home. Requiring just a space that is decluttered and has some natural light to work with. I don’t use flash or fill light, so setting your session up when your home has the best lighting in the room you are looking to do the majority of your photos is best.

If you want to venture outside for a few photos, I can help with that, too. Ideally there are certain times of days that will be easier to find better light, but most of the time I can help you find open shade around your space to allow for more flexiblity in the timing too. The biggest recommendation I have is to be really open in your initial consultion with your photographer and in your quesitonnaire, whether online or over the phone so you can be on the same page as your photographer. If you want a specific pose taken, talk that through at booking so your photographer can help guide you with the best time to achieve that type of photo.

I have been doing this for almost thirteen years and have learned a lot over the years. It is best to be open in your communication for your photo expections when researching or looking for a newborn photographer. I always say there is a photographer for everyone, but I am not the photographer for everyone. Each photographer is an artist and shouldn’t be all things to everyone. I adore posed newborn photos but that is not my niche, so if you want that and inquire with me, then I will recommend a few local photographers who offer that specialty. I adore connections in my photos and authentic family portraits. I also love rich color an deeper tones in my editing style. I am not bright and airy, so if you like that look, then I would not be the right fit either. While I don’t want to only take smile at the camera photos the entire time, I do mix them in if requested for sure. If you want traditional poses the entire time, again, I am happy to send on referrals to other photographers. I truly love what I do and how I do it, so I love when clients want to document their family with my style, but I am also happy to pass on other recommendations to help someone find their right photographer if I am not that person for them.

Expecting now? The biggest recommendation I have is to reach out before baby arrives so we have time to talk about your vision for your baby photos and set aside a weekend date after your due date or hold a couple of weekday mornings if you can do a weekday. Babies come on their own time though, so we are flexible with newborn scheduling and only take a couple of newborns a month maximum. Reach out to me by the time your third trimester starts if you are an expectant parent in Tampa looking for newborn photos.
