Indian Rocks Beach Vacation Photos | Extended Family Photo Session

I adore big family photo sessions. They are so much fun to document all the dynamics of a big family. Grandparents, siblings, all these relationships are so fun to chronicle for families. Especially if your family is on vacation together. Indian Rocks Beach is quickly becoming a hot spot for family photos for me. I love the wide open beach space, there are not too many hotels along the beach and just down to earth families coming together for fun on the beach. Family photos can be a great way to remember the time together visiting Florida, and also be an important photo diary for your family long after the beach vacation ends.

If you are coming from different parts of the world it can be a bit scary to try to coordinate on your own, but I am here to help take the stress out of the vacation photos at least. I mail a welcome packet that has tips for session success. Everything from style tips for looking your best, to what to do in the days leading up to your photos and everything in between.

Here are a few of my favorite tips to prepare for family beach photos (the condensed version):

  • The beach is windier and sometimes cooler than other locations. Great in summer, sometimes cold in winter. Layers are a great idea! It also means wearing your hair back if you have a lot of whispy hairs, or just going with the flow for that beach look. I love a good wind moment in the hair, but it isn’t for everyone. If you are really particular or know you will be playing with your hair to get it out of your face, then plan ahead with a tiny braid, a bobby pin to pull your whispy/bangs to the side, or add extra hair product

  • Don’t overdo the sunshine and chlorine the days before. Sunscreen is your friend. Being sunburned in photos is not something I will just “fix in Photoshop” as you can definitely fix that with a little sunscreen beforehand! Same thing for goggles in the pool to help cut down on red eyes for the littles who may spend every waking hour they can in your beach house pool if they can. No one wants red eyes in your family photo memories, am I right?

  • Towels jsut in case for the end of the session, or a warm layer to throw on at the end can help save kids wanting to stop 15 minutes before the sun goes down…when the light is the prettiest. If your kids are like mine, they will end up soaked at the beach no matter what the situation, so a towel at the end can keep them warm and dry as you walk back to your car or house :)

Heading to Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shore, or anywhere along the Clearwater to St. Petersburg beaches this spring break? Now is the time to set up your family beach photos. I am about 70% booked for spring weekends through May. However, I have many weekday openings through May at this time. I also offfer 10% off your retainer Monday - Thursdays!
